Provided are a method and a server for providing a group purchase service, which enables a plurality of users to jointly purchase a product or a service, using an instant message. According to the present invention, when the group purchase service using an instant message service is provided, group purchase initiation information for a product or a service selected by a purchase proposal device is received. Acquaintance information corresponding to at least one acquaintance selected from an acquaintance list is received, and at least one chatting room corresponding to the at least one acquaintance information is generated. A first instant message, which includes a group purchase request for a selected good or service, is transmitted to the acquaintance device corresponding to the at least one acquaintance information. When all of the at least one acquaintance device, which received the first instant message, accepts the group purchase request, a second instant message, which indicates completion of the group purchase, is transmitted through the chatting room to the acquaintance devices. The acquaintance list is stored in a data base linked with an instant message service server or in a memory of the purchase proposal device, and is transfered to the purchase proposal device. The first instant message includes at least some of the group purchase initiation information including at least one of a target purchaser number for the product or service, incentive information for the good or service, and a purchase closing time. |
