According to an embodiment, the present invention relates to a letter input method for security and a portable terminal performing the same. The letter input method using the portable terminal according to the embodiment comprises the following steps of: switching a keypad input method of the portable terminal to a security mode in accordance with an input of a user; receiving the input of the user to a keypad displayed on a display of the portable terminal; converting an exposed letter to an input letter so that the exposed letter displayed on the keypad and the input letter in case of selecting the exposed letter are different; and displaying the input letter on a letter input screen of the portable terminal. |
