Provided are an apparatus and a method for manufacturing plate glass, which can transfer plate glass in a ribbon shape without the occurrence of defect or damage to the lower surface thereof. According to the present invention, the apparatus for manufacturing plate glass comprises: a float bath in which molten glass is molded into a flat plate; an annealing furnace in which the molten glass is carried thereinto and then annealed; and a dross box which is arranged between the float bath and the annealing furnace, and draws the molten glass from the float bath and molds the same into ribbon-shaped plate glass, and then transfers the plate glass to the annealing furnace. The annealing furnace includes: at least two rollers arranged at the bottom surface of the plate glass; and a gas supporting device which is disposed between the rollers and supports the plate glass by pressurized gas directed in an upward direction. According to the present invention, a driving force is applied onto the plate glass by using the rollers in the beginning of production or in case of emergency, and the contact with the bottom surface of the plate glass can be minimized by using the gas supporting device after the stabilization. |
