PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus configured to improve durability, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A fixing apparatus for fixing an unfixed toner image carried on a recording medium P onto the recording medium includes: a belt-like first rotating body 110; a second rotating body 120 that holds a recording medium with an outer peripheral surface of the first rotating body; a pressure member 130 arranged on the side of an inner periphery of the first rotating body to press the first rotating body against the second rotating body; and a sliding sheet 140 arranged between an inner peripheral surface of the first rotating body and the pressure member, to be brought into sliding contact with the inner peripheral surface of the first rotating body. A tensile strength in a sliding direction of the first rotating body on the sliding sheet is smaller than a tensile strength in a direction crossing the sliding direction on the sliding sheet.
