PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil-water separation method of oil-containing scum or oil-containing wastewater capable of performing oil-water separation by a simple processing method to the oil-containing scum or the oil-containing wastewater discharged from various steps without requiring an acid resistant facility.SOLUTION: A polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether sulfate ester salt having an alkylene oxide addition molar number of 1-3 is added to oil-containing scum or oil-containing wastewater. The polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether sulfate ester salt represented by general formula (1): is preferably used as the polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether sulfate ester salt (where Rrepresents a 8-18C alkyl group; Rrepresents a 2-3C alkylene group; n is a number of 1-3; and X is a monovalent cation).
