PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipe locating method capable of highly accurately measuring earth covering of a pipe material.SOLUTION: A pipe locating method which measures earth covering Z of a pipe material T formed of metal and embedded in the ground includes: supplying AC current between a first position P1 and a second position P2 provided with an interval in a longitudinal direction X of the pipe material; changing a value of the AC current by using a variable resistor 15 that can continuously change a resistance value, and setting the value of the AC current to a fixed value I which is set in advance; measuring a value E of induction electromotive force generated in a coil device 25 installed on the ground, from a change in magnetic field caused by the AC current; and calculating the earth covering Z from the formula (1): (1) Z=(K×I)/E-L-D/2, where L is defined as a distance from the ground surface to the center of the coil device, D as an outer diameter of the pipe material, and K as a constant. |
