PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a glass preform for optical fiber that can prevent a glass deposition layer from being broken.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method for a glass preform for optical fiber that includes a deposition process of depositing glass on an inner surface of a quartz pipe 2 by heating the quartz pipe 2 while circulating a glass raw material glass in the quartz pipe 2 and also moving a main heat source 7 for deposition reciprocally along a length of the quartz pipe; and a collapse process of making the quartz pipe 2 solid by heating the quartz pipe 2 while moving a main heat source 17 for collapse reciprocally along the length of the quartz pipe 2. In the collapse process, parts of the quartz pipe 2 which correspond to inversion position R1, R2 of reciprocation of the main heat source 7 for deposition are heated by an auxiliary heat source 18. |
