PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for generating temporally consistent superpixels.SOLUTION: A cluster assignment generator generates 10 a cluster assignment for a first image of a sequence of images by clustering pixels of the first image into superpixels or by retrieving an initial cluster assignment for the first image and processing only contour pixels with regard to the cluster assignment for the first image. A label propagator initializes 11 subsequent images on the basis of label propagation using a backward optical flow. A contour pixel processor then processes 12 only contour pixels with regard to a subsequent cluster assignment for subsequent images of the sequence of images.
