1,039,245. Lead monoxide for electrophotography. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 5, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1963], No. 31809/64. Heading H1K. A coating material for use in an X-ray electrophotographic plate comprises orthorhombic lead monoxide of size less than 10Á and purity greater than 99.9% in an insulating binder. The plate may be prepared by firing a quantity of orthorhombic lead monoxide in a dry atmosphere, e.g. at 300‹ to 600‹ C. in an inert atmosphere or at 100-350‹ C. or 500- 700‹ C. in dry air thereby introducing O 2 to provide P-type conduction. After heat treatment, compounds for controlling the oxygen content of the monoxide may be added. A suspension of the monoxide may be used with an appropriate binder, e.g. polyisobutyl methacrylate, in a solvent, e.g. toluene, and applied to a conductive backing, e.g. Al foil or conductive paper. Coating of the backing may be aided by a silicone oil or a vinyl acetyl material in chloroform. The ratio of lead monoxide to binder is preferably in excess of 4: 1. |
