[Also in Division F4] An optical viewing system comprises a base 10 with a vertical post 11 thereon, supporting a downwardly open housing 12 for universal movement, the housing 12 having a circular opening in its normally upper surface which detachably mounts a lens system 15 surrounded by a ring-shaped light source 14. The housing is pivoted about a horizontal axis in a semi-circular yoke 13 pivoted about a transverse horizontal axis by a hub 20a mounted on a bolt 13a carried by a mount 20b slidable on the post 11, fine adjustment being obtained by collar 22 capable of being clamped at 21 to the post 11, and screw 24. The specimens on a light table 27 may be viewed (a) directly with lens 15 removed in which case a shield 19b is inserted in its place, (b) with lens 15 in place to give a magnification of 2<SP>1</SP>/ 2 , a shield 15b being engaged by a bayonet joint below the lens 15, (c) with lens 15 and lens 16 in place as shown to give a magnification of 3<SP>1</SP>/ 2 to 4 or (d) with lens 17 pivoted into position in alignment with lenses 15, 16 to give a magnification of 7. A camera 18 may be secured by ring 19a and studs 12a to the housing 12. |
