A gate 'T' is held in its open or closed final positions against wind, hand or like pressure by a hydraulically operated linkage in which an angle of not more than 90‹ is maintained between a longer bell crank arm 6 and a pivoted slide bar 4, the arm 6 being slidably connected therewith and at least of the same length. Movement of a piston rod 18 rotates the bell crank about a pivot 7 and the slide bar 4 about a pivot 5, whereon the gate opens or closes through the action of a further linkage connected thereto and comprising an intermediate coupling rod 15 adjustable in length pivoted at one end to a gate strap 16 and at the other to a connecting piece 12 attached to the slide bar The gate post 2 supports a rectangular frame 1, on a diagonal of which are attached the pivots 5, 7, while the hydraulic cylinder 8, pivotably attached at 9 to the frame, underlies the various linkage members. In a modification, (Fig. 2) the further linkage 12, 15, 16 is replaced by a system in which the slide bar and the gate post are pivoted at the same point (3), the gate 'T' being opened in the opposite direction to that in the first embodiment. In both embodiments the hydraulic system comprises a reversible cog wheel pump 23, a sump B, high pressure relief valves 25 and conduits 21, 22 in which are situated oil quantity regulating valves 26, 27 and return conduits 30, 31 which are throttled to enable the piston speed and thereby the opening and closing of the gate to be independently adjustable. The pump 23 is actuated and caused to continue running after the final position of the gate has been reached by an electric motor having an adjustable time relay device. |
