A decorative material, e.g. a floor covering, comprises a transparent vinyl sheet, e.g. a P.V.C. or vinyl chloride acetate copolymer, and a supporting sheet, e.g. P.V.C. or impregnated paper, felt paper or textile, one of the bonded surfaces having a relief pattern the depressions of which are filled with visibly separate particles of an " effect " material having different colour, opacity, reflectivity or refractivity. In addition, the supporting sheet or the bonded surface thereof has a nacreous lustre, formed by the suspension therein of metallic particles, or a form of mercurous chloride known as pearl essence, or as described in Specifications 555,127 and 662,018. The relief pattern may be embossed by rollers or plates and the two sheets may be bonded by fusing or using a vinyl chloride plastisol cement. The " effect " material may comprise a suspension, in an organisol or plastisol of thermoplastic or thermoset resin, of short strands of tinsel, spangles or other metallic foil particles, or mica, or other organic or inorganic material.</p> |
