PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving accuracy without adversely affecting an acquisition speed or a final acquisition time for acquiring the position fix of a mobile station during an emergency service (ES) call or added value service (VAS) session.SOLUTION: A mobile station starts a positioning engine and an activity timer during a predetermined time length in response to detecting a trigger event, and starts the processing of one or more radio signals received from a positioning system. The mobile station starts a positioning protocol session between the mobile station and one or more network devices in response to receiving a positioning protocol position request message from one or more network devices, and to determining that the predetermined time length has not elapsed on the activity timer after starting the positioning engine while continuing the processing. The estimation of the position of the mobile station is transmitted from the mobile station to one or more network devices during the positioning protocol session.
