A method and apparatus are provided for transmitting and receiving an uplink Sounding Reference Signal (SRS). The method includes receiving a sounding reference signal (SRS) configuration index; identifying an SRS periodicity and at least one offset based on the SRS configuration index; transmitting SRSs four times within a radio frame based on the at least one offset, if the SRS periodicity is 2 ms and an uplink-downlink (UL-DL) subframe configuration 0, 1, 2, or 6 is applied; and transmitting the SRSs twice within the radio frame based on the at least one offset, if the SRS periodicity is 2 ms and to the UL-DL subframe configuration 3, 4, or 5 is applied. |
