A latch mechanism for two hinged members comprises a spring-loaded keeper 3 for pivotally mounting on one member 1 and a spring-loaded latch bolt 4 for mounting on the other member 2 the pivots 5, 6 of the keeper and latch bolt being substantially parallel to the hinge axis of the members so that the keeper and latch bolt move in a plane substantially parallel to that axis, the latch bolt being formed with a safety notch 10 and a closure-notch 12 and arranged so that closing movement of the hinged members effects a relative sliding movement of the keeper and latch bolt. As shown, the latch bolt is connected through a pivoted link 13 and a rod 16 to a handle 15 mounted at its other end on the door by means of a screw 23 and two rubber grommets 24. The rod 16 carries a spring 19 which loads the latch bolt in the latched position shown and extends through a frusto-conical rubber pad 20 to its connection with the handle 15.</p> |
