METHOD, APPARATUS, AND SYSTEM FOR IMPLEMENTING A NATURAL USER INTERFACE

A method, apparatus, and system are disclosed for controlling a set-top box based on natural input from a user through various types of devices. Input devices are used to collect sensor data that represents natural user input for controlling the set-top box. The sensor data is parsed in order to identify the natural user input, and a user interface event is generated based on the natural user input. The user interface event is one that is supported by the set-top box. The user interface event is subsequently communicated to the set-top box.

1. A method comprising:
identifying sensor data from an input device, wherein the sensor data represents a natural user input that is to be translated for controlling a set-top box; initiating a translation of the sensor data by a parsing of the natural user input from the sensor data; generating a user interface event supported by the set-top box based on the natural user input; mapping the user interface event to a user interface region of the set-top box, wherein the user interface region is identified based on a previous registration of the user interface region; and communicating the user interface event, the user interface region, or a combination thereof to the set-top box.
