An electro-mechanical gear shifter with illumination for electric vehicles is provided. The electro-mechanical gear shifter comprises a gear shifter or assembly handle (2) to change the gear, a switch assembly (1), a detent mechanism (3), a housing (4) comprising a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) with one or more reed switches (6), a solenoid (7) and a lock pin (8). The gear position signals are transferred through the reed switches (6) and fed to vehicle Integrated Engine Management System (IEMS).
