The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a novel europium (III) complex which is a liquid at ordinary temperatures and pressures; and a use thereof. This europium (III) complex comprises: a europium (III) ion coordinated by four specific anionic bidentate ligands; and a counter cation represented by formula (2) (in formula (2), R3 represents an alkyl group, R4 represents a cycloalkyl group, an aralkyl group, an aryl group, or a group obtained by substituting one hydrogen atom of an alkyl group with a cycloalkyl group, and R5 represents hydrogen, a methyl group, or an ethyl group). |
