Provided is a method for producing an electrode plate for a lead storage battery, said method being capable of inhibiting the formation of fissures and cracks in the surface of the electrode plate. In the method, the following steps are performed: an active material filling step in which a lattice substrate made of a lead alloy is filled with a paste-like active material to prepare an active material-filled electrode plate; a press moulding step in which the active material-filled electrode plate is press moulded; and an ageing/drying step in which the active material-filled electrode plate, having been press moulded in the press moulding step, is aged and dried to obtain an unformed electrode plate. Furthermore, in the method, the following steps are additionally performed: a sulfuric acid treatment step in which the surface of the active material-filled electrode plate is treated with sulfuric acid adjusted to a temperature higher than room temperature; and a preliminary drying step in which the active material-filled electrode plate, having been treated with sulfuric acid in the sulfuric acid treatment step, is preliminarily dried before being aged in the ageing/drying step. |
