PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base tread rubber composition that solves the problem in which: the pneumatic tire is required of various performances and in particular it is desired that the fuel consumption performance and the steering stability are balanced at high level, and there exists the same requirement also for the base tread; in general, in order to improve the fuel consumption performance, a carbon black of large particle size is incorporated and the measures such as decreasing the incorporation amount have been taken; and such means, however, leads to the lowering of the hardness and the worsening of the fatigue resistance, and there is a problem of impairing the steering stability and the durability.SOLUTION: The problem was solved by a rubber composition in which 1 to 30 pts.mass of C-based petroleum resin modified with a phenolic compound having a weight average molecular weight Mw of 200 to 1000 and a softening point of -40 to 20°C, and 20 to 80 pts.mass of carbon black having NSA of 70 to 150 m/g are incorporated into 100 pts.mass of a diene-based rubber comprising NR and SBR. |
