1,075,210. Adjustable seat backs. AMERICAN METAL PRODUCTS CO. Nov. 9, 1965 [Dec. 10, 1964], No. 47438/65. Heading A4J. [Also in Division E2] In order to adjust the inclination of seat back 22 relatively to seat frame 20, projection 60 is withdrawn from between the teeth of a nut 64, formed externally as a pinion, to free it for rotation about the axis of a rod having a quick screw-thread 62. On tilting the back 22, the nut 64 is constrained to run along the threads 62 by bearing blocks 70 and 72 fast with back 22 and can thereafter be locked in any position by the return of projection 60. The frictional resistance to tilting the back is increased with increasing compression of spring 66. Back 22 turns about the axis 36 of hinges 38 to which it is secured by strap 40 and bolts 46. The screw-threaded member 62, which may have various crosssectional forms, is pivoted for non-axial rotation to bolt 76. On folding the back 22 forwardly (Fig. 3, not shown), hinges 38 are lifted from plates 44, as the back rest is moved with links 30 about pivots 28. |
