PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calibrate a proximity sensor to be adjusted to various reflecting surfaces.SOLUTION: A method comprises: detecting a peak intensity of a signal reflected from a surface on the basis of random movement of a mobile device; and identifying the peak intensity of the signal and approximating a first function of the intensity over a range from a proximity sensor to the surface on the basis at least partly of an application of the identified peak intensity to a first reference curve. Here, the first reference curve includes a second function of the intensity over the range, and the first function includes a new reference curve for the surface.
