PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gallium and nitrogen contained board and optical device that enhance the efficiency of extracting light from a chip.SOLUTION: A board contains a material which is configured in a triangular shape to have five or less surface areas and a fixed thickness. Each of the surface areas contains three surfaces comprising first equivalent crystal faces. The five surface areas excluding the three surface areas contain two surface areas constructed by second equivalent crystal faces. The optical device has a base region, and three or less main planar side portion areas which are formed from the base region and arranged in a triangular shape.
