After developing a number of film strips, they are joined together and passed through a printers where the operations are controlled automatically by means which scan or detect data on the film. Fig. 4 is a flow diagram showing the sequence of operations. At box 11 the end of a strip of undeveloped film projecting from its cassette receives perforations (6, Fig.l, not shown) forming a reference number in binary code. At box 12 the film is developed and dried in the normal way. At box 13 the films are sorted, and films of like size are joined together. At the same time, a notch (10, Fig.3, not shown) is made at the top edge of the film in a predetermined position with respect to each film frame, and another notch (7) at the bottom edge in a position corresponding to the series of perforations (6). Box 14 is the printing stage. Sensing means respond to the upper notch (10) to stop the film feed at the correct position and initiate the printing. Further sensing means respond to the lower notch (7) to scan the binary code perforations (6), and decode it so that a machine stamps the same number in ordinary numerals on the back of each print. The exposed papers then pass to box 17, where they are developed, and box 18, where quality inspection and checking is carried out. If a print is unsatisfactory, the correction details are stamped on a slip, and film and print returned along paths 19, 20 to box 14 for reprinting Satisfactory prints pass on to box 21, where they are separated by cutting. The film negatives from box 14, together with envelopes stamped with the reference number at box 11, both pass directly to box 22, where the films are cut into strips and put into the envelopes. Finally the prints are checked at box 23 and also put into the corresponding envelopes.</p> |
