In at least one embodiment, the semiconductor laser device (1) comprises a laser diode (2) and a reflection surface (3). The reflection surface (3) reflects diffusely and is irradiated by the laser diode (2) during operation. The laser diode (2) serves as the sole light source of the semiconductor laser device (1). The laser diode (2) is mounted immovably relative to the reflection surface (3). Light (R) emitted by the semiconductor laser device (1) during operation has the same or fewer spectral components than light (R) emitted by the laser diode (2). An interspace between the laser diode (2) and the reflection surface (3) is free of an optical assembly. A light-emitting area of the semiconductor laser device (1) is larger than a light-emitting area of the laser diode (2) by at least a factor of 100.
