The present invention relates to methods for assessing mineralocorticoid receptor activation in adipose tissue of a subject. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for assessing mineralocorticoid receptor activation in the adipose tissue of a subject comprising the steps of i) determining the expression level of PTGDS in a sample obtained from the subject, ii) comparing the expression level determined at step i) with a predetermined reference value and iii) concluding of the mineralocorticoid receptor activation in the adipose tissue of the subject when the expression level determined at step i) is higher than the predetermined reference value. The invention also relates to the use of mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists for use in the treatment of metabolic disorders, e.g. metabolic syndrome or obesity.
