A hydrogen sulfide sensor(10) is disclosed. The hydrogen sulfide sensor includes a substrate (12), a pair of interdigitated electrodes (14A, 14B) supported by the substrate, and a nanocomposite based sensing layer (16) deposited on the interdigitated electrodes and configured to interact with hydrogen sulfide. In preferred embodiments, the nanocomposite comprises (i) an inert matrix of polymer, eg. PS, PVA, PVC or clay, eg. muscovite, kaolinite etc; (ii) polyaniline (PANI) nanofibres; and (iii) a copper or silver salt, especially coper or silver acetate, prepared via sonochemical mehods. |
