A resin impregnated laminate is made by forming an assembly comprising a core of one or more fibrous sheets impregnated with phenol- or phenol-urea-formaldehyde urea resin an intermediate adhesive layer comprising an aminotriazine aldehyde or substituted aminotriazine aldehyde aldehyde resin, and an outer protective coating of a fluorine containing polymer, and curing the assembly by heat and pressure. The protective coating may be polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, P.T.F.E., or polyfluorochloroethylene. it may be transparent and contain an organic compound capable of absorbing ultra-violet light or may contain a pigment. The adhesive layer may be a fibrous sheet impregnated with resin and may be decorative or overlying a decorative sheet, or it may be coated on to the protective layer or core surface or both. It may include other resins and a plasticizer. Aminotriazines referred to are melamine, methyl melamine, butyl melamine and benzoguanamine and as aldehyde-formaldehyde. In an example a sheet of paper impregnated with melamine formaldehyde is superimposed on a stack of sheets of Kraft paper impregnated with phenol-formaldehyde and a sheet of polyvinyl fluoride pigmented with titanium dioxide laid thereon and the assembly laminated under heat and pressure. Other examples are given.
|
