Relates to a method of producing metallized capacitor tapes in which a non-conductive dielectric substance 2 is deposited on a carrier body 1 and in which a metallic coating 3 is subsequently deposited on the substance in spaced strips, wherein the carrier body and the dielectric substance are cut together between the strips, as at 4-4<SP>1</SP>, into like elements so that each metallic strip covers only a part of the surface area of the substance in each element. The dielectric substance 2 in each element is then detached from its associated carrier body 1 and is folded to form two plane portions substantially parallel to each other (see Fig. 2), the relative positions of the fold 5-5<SP>1</SP> and the part covered by the metallic coating 3 being such that the metallic coating is exposed and covers at least a major part of one of the plane portions but does not cover or covers only a minor part of the other plane portion. To form a capacitor two or more such units may be placed together, as shown in Fig. 2, the areas where the coatings overlap the bent edges serving as suitable positions at which to attach leads. The invention is said to improve the dielectric breakdown strength of a capacitor assembly without substantially increasing the manufacturing costs. |
