A controller in a storage system receives a capacity change command specifying a device. The controller thereafter changes a volume capacity value of a virtual volume associated with the specified device to a value representing the storage capacity following the capacity change command. As such, the storage capacity of the device can be changed without increasing or decreasing the number of logical volumes associated with the device.
