Provided is a novel positive electrode active material with which the quantity of gas generated as a result of a reaction with an electrolyte solution can be effectively suppressed. This positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery includes positive electrode active material particles in which an A layer including at least one from among titanium (Ti), aluminium (Al), and zirconium (Zr) is provided to the whole or portions of surfaces of lithium/manganese-containing composite oxide particles (also referred to as "core particles") which operate at a charging voltage in a range exceeding 4.3 V using metallic Li as a reference potential. |
