A television standard (e.g. CI Plus) compatible terminal module 201 for interfacing with a television terminal 101 compatible with the standard comprises: (secure) receiver 205 for at least in part encrypted data transport stream 203 decryptable by a television terminal decrypter for the standard of a television terminal, comprising either no encryption secret (key) or an encrypted encryption secret for decrypting the transport stream (TS); and an output for outputting to the television terminal 101 comprising a decrypter 108 for the standard: the (at least partially) encrypted data transport stream decryptable by the television terminal decrypter for the standard derived; and an encryption secret for the data transport stream. Module 201 forms part of a standard compatible television distribution system comprising first 200 and second 201 housings, spaced apart (e.g. separated transmitter and (e.g. wireless) module receiver). The arrangement splits or divides functions of a terminal module between spaced devices, allowing conditional access system (CAS) functions to be implemented in a subsystem 200 shared by multiple (plural) TV receivers; a simple CI plus module is attached to each terminal, and fewer CAS smart cards are required, reducing card theft opportunities etc. |
