Apparatus for mounting or demounting tyres comprises rim-engaging bars 7, 8, 9 pivoted at their inner ends on a plate 5 and guided between pairs of rollers 16 (Fig. 2, not shown) on a plate 10, and a clutch-plate 11 secured to a flange 12 of the housing 1. When a rim is placed on the plate 5, which is axially slidable on a splined shaft 4 connected with a reversible motor 2, the plate 5 rotates but the plate 10 remains still due to equal and opposite torque action from the plates 5 and 11 until the bars 7, 8, 9 grip the rim, and then both plates 5, 10 and the rim rotate. To remove a tyre a part of the tyre edge is lifted with a hand-tool, a tool D is inserted between the tyre and rim, and the rim is rotated. For accommodating different sized tyres the tool D is freely movable in a bearing on an arm 14 rotatable on an axle T spaced from the shaft 4.</p> |
