A fluid-flow-control valve is of the kind in which the flow passes through a deformable sleeve 12, the valve is closed by pinching together opposite side walls of the sleeve, and wherein the sleeve is contained in a throughway in the valve body 14 which throughway has two protuberances 54, 56 projecting laterally into it from one side wall, said protuberances being spaced in the direction of flow and having mutually opposed faces that define between them a side entry passage into the throughway in which there operates a valve plug 70 for pinching the sleeve, and the sleeve wall is contiguous with the protuberances and is itself formed with a protrusion that extends into the side entry passage between said protuberances when the valve is fully open and is pressed against the opposite sleeve wall by the valve plug when the valve is closed, there being sufficient deformable sleeve material in this wall protrusion for the change in sleeve configuration from the open to the closed position to be m de without substantial stretching of any of the material of the sleeve or pulling of the remainder of the sleeve material. In the Figure, a pinch valve 10 may use materials for the sleeve known under the Registered Trade Marks " Hypalon " or " Viton." The pinch valve is joined to a pipeline by flanges 32 and 34 and clamping members 36, 38. The-protuberances. 54, 56 are of substantially triangular configuration, and sloped to converge on the axis-of the side entry to the throughway. - In the side entry is the valve plug 70 operating on the upper fa e 22 of the sleeve by movement of.a stem 68 connected by a screw 82 to a plate 78. A casing 62.is screwed into the pinch valve 10, a spring 84 bearing against this casing and the plate 78 to keep the valve sleeve open. The upper part of plate 78 is attached to a diaphragm 88 fixed to the casing 62 to form a chamber between itself and a cover member 92. A three-way valve 110 is connected to points 120, 130 upstream and downstream of the valve and to this chamber, and by switching the valve to the upstream or downstream ports, the valve can be closed or opened. By closing the valve 110 to both, the pinch valve position is kept stationary.
