摘要 Textile materials containing natural and/or regenerated cellulose fibres, e.g. cotton and viscose rayon, are crease-proofed by applying to them up to 45%, based on the weight of the air-dried textile material, of a bath containing a semiacetal of formaldehyde with a monodi-, tri- or tetrahydric low aliphatic alcohol having 1-6 carbon atoms, a strong mineral acid, e.g. hydrochloric or nitric acid, or a strongly acidly reacting salt of a strong mineral acid with a metal having a valency of 3 or 4, e.g. aluminium trichloride or zirconium oxychloride, and not more than 32% by weight of water, and leaving them to stand at room temperatures for 4-36 hours. The textile materials may then be rinsed, neutralised and dried. The bath may contain 65-93% by weight of the semiactal, 1.5-6% by weight of the strongly acid catalyst and 5-32% by weight of water and may be applied by means of an applicator roll, spraying or printing. Alternatively the material may be impregnated with the bath and reeled together with 1-4 dry untreated lengths of the same material on to a reel and left to stand until a substantially completely uniform distribution of the bath solution to all lengths is achived. Up to two thirds of the total quantity of the semiacetal may be replaced by methylol compounds of cyclic propylene or hydroxypropylene urea, cyclic ethylene urea, ethylene diurea, dihydroxyethylene urea or urethanes of low aliphatic alcohols. Textile materials pretreated with optical brighteners, and softening and sizing agents may be treated.
