<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document reader in which, even when a foreign matter enters inside a reading unit to generate a defective image such as a black stripe, the maintenance of the reading unit is easy and which is easy to handle. <P>SOLUTION: A reading mechanism for reading a document comprises: a first unit 62 comprising a contact glass 20; a second unit 61 comprising a light source; plural mirrors 24, 25, 26, and 27 and a lens 28; and a third unit 60 comprising a photoelectric converter.
