A coupling 130 connected to a refrigeration system (100, fig 1) is used to assess the level of charge within the refrigeration system. The coupling comprises a housing 134 that houses a temperature sensor to measure a temperature in situ of a fluid in the refrigeration system and/or a pressure sensor to measure a pressure in situ of the fluid in the refrigeration system. The temperature and/or pressure sensor generate a respective signal of the measured temperature and/or pressure that is transmitted wirelessly. A battery 164 may power the or each sensor and the battery may have a sensor to determine its life. A conduit 142 communicates an inlet (132) of the coupling with the refrigeration system. User equipment includes a cellular phone, tablets, a computer, a controller and a processor may communicate with the coupling. Refrigeration systems may include those found on vehicles, HVAC systems commercial refrigeration systems comprising of food displays, walk in freezers or refrigerated trucking. The coupling may be located downstream of a condenser (118) or evaporator (116) and positioned in a high pressure port 122 by a quick disconnect element or threading into car type valve. |
