<p>PURPOSE: A liquid crystal element and a liquid crystal display device thereof are provided to omit basically required power besides power required for display conversion by using the bistability of two orientation states of the liquid crystal element. CONSTITUTION: A first and a second substrate(11,12) set an orientation processing direction for generating a first orientation state of liquid crystal molecules. A liquid crystal layer(24) contains a chiral agent for generating a second orientation state of the liquid crystal molecules. If a voltage is supplied to a gap between a second electrode and a common electrode(23), the second orientation state of the liquid crystal layer is transferred to the first orientation state. If the voltage is supplied to a gap between a first electrode and the second electrode, the first orientation state of the liquid crystal layer is transferred to the second orientation state. The orientation state is maintained after the voltage supply is released.</p> |
