A restraining device for swinging or sliding fire doors, e.g. the sliding door 10 of an elevator, comprises a heat-actuated device 24 adapted to drive a pin 21 into a hole 22, the device 24 and the hole 22 being located on the door 10 and a member on which the door closes, e.g. the door frame 14, 17 respectively, or vice versa. The drive for the pin 21 may be a spring (see Fig. 3, not shown), a vaporisable liquid or a black powder charge, the pin being normally retained by a fusible alloy plug or a thin disc, as appropriate. The device 24 and hole 22 may be located on the abutting edges of centre opening sliding doors, (see Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), or on the leading door and door frame of two speed sliding doors (see Figs. 5 to 7, not shown), and two or more devices may be used and may be located in the bottom edge of the door. |
