Cis- and trans-isomers of compounds of the formula and their acid addition salts wherein the R1R2N(CH2)nO-group is borne in the m- or p-position relative to the CR3=CR4R5-group, wherein R1 is H or a C1- 6 alkyl group; R2 is a C1- 6 alkyl group or NR1R2 is a N-containing heterocyclic radical, n is an integer from 2 to 6, R3 and R4 are the same or different and are aryl radicals optionally substituted by one or more halogen atoms, alkyl or alkoxy groups and R5 is an alkyl group but excluding the isomers of 1-(p-b -dimethylaminoethoxyphenyl)-1,2 -diphenylbuten-1-ene citrate are prepared by separation, e.g. fractional crystallization or chromatographically of a mixture of the isomers. Cis- and trans-mixtures of 1-(p-b -dimethylaminoethoxyphenyl) - 1,2 - diphenyl - prop - 1 -enes, - 3 - methylbut - 1 - enes and -pent- 1 - enes; 1 - (p - b - diisopropylaminoethoxyphenyl)-, 1- (p - b - morpholinoethoxyphenyl)- and 1 - (pb - butylaminoethoxyphenyl) - 1,2 - diphenylbut- 1 - enes and 1 - (p - b - dimethylaminoethoxyphenyl) - 1,2 - di - (p - chlorophenyl) - but - 1 - ene are prepared through the following 1-(p-b -dimethylaminoethoxyphenyl - 1,2 - diphenyl-propan- 1 - ol, -3 - methylbutan - 1 - ol, and -pentan - 1 - ol; 1 - (p - b - diisopropylaminoethoxyphenyl)-, 1 - (p - b - morpholinoethoxyphenyl)- and 1 - (pb - butylaminoethoxyphenyl) - 1,2 - diphenylbutan- 1 - ol and 1 - (p - b - dimethylaminoethoxyphenyl)- 1,2 - di - (p - chlorophenyl) - butan - 1 - ol; 4 - b - morpholinoethoxy - a - ethyldesoxybenzoin, 4- bromoethoxy - a - ethyldesoxybenzoin and 4- butylaminoethoxy-a -ethyldesoxybenzoin. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the cis- or trans-isomers of the invention and a carrier therefor. The compounds, which modify the endocrine status in man, may be administered enterally or parenterally.
