1,140,056. Pneumatic tyres. PNEUMATIQUES, CAOUTCHOUC MANUFACTURE ET PLASTIQUES KLEBER - COLOMBES. 18 April, 1966 [17 April, 1965; 9 Dec., 1965], No. 16969/66. Heading B7C. A radial cord carcass pneumatic tyre comprises a breaker including cross-laid layers 6 of wire cables or cords forming an angle of less than 20 degrees to the mid-plane laid around two or more layers 7 which are not cross-laid and the wire cables or cords of which extend at a substantially equal angle to mid-plane of between 60 degrees and 90 degrees. The axial width of the layers 7 may be between 105% and 85% of that of the tread rolling surface, but preferably the layers 7 subtend at the "centre" of a tyre radial cross-section an angle greater than that subtended by the tread rolling surface. ("Centre" is the intersection between the line of maximum axial width and the mid-plane.) The edges of plies 6 and 7 may be covered by rubber strips 10 and cushion layers 9, the latter having a smaller hysteresis than the tread rubber to reduce heating. The layers 7 are preferably metal cords calendered in rubber of small hysteresis, e.g. 65-70 degrees Shore A, the cords of layers 6 being in rubber of 80 degrees Shore A hardness. The cords of layers 6 may be formed of thirty-eight wires each of 0À15mm. diameter, and those of layers 7 of seven strands of seven wires each of 0À17mm. diameter. |
