PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for forming an alignment film and a method for forming an alignment film, by which a use amount of a solvent can be decreased and an alignment film can be formed through a low-temperature process using an inexpensive low boiling point solvent, and a liquid crystal display device using the alignment film.SOLUTION: The composition for forming an alignment film comprises a polymer having a dendron side chain. The method for forming an alignment film comprises applying the above composition for forming an alignment film on a substrate and drying the composition to form an alignment film. The liquid crystal display device includes a pair of substrate on which an alignment film is formed, and a liquid crystal layer held between the pair of substrates, in which the alignment film is formed by using the above composition for forming an alignment film.
