A suction actuated piston 3, which restricts the primary air passage 2 at 18, is loaded by a spring 38 through a lever 33 which is in turn pivoted about the end 36 of a pivotally mounted rod 40, the arrangement being such that the loading decreases as the piston moves to increase the cross-sectional area at 18. The lever 33 is housed in a chamber 7 containing oil and communicating via permanently open ports 30 and a ball-controlled port 31 with a chamber 7A in which the end of the piston rod 23 moves. Piston oscillations are thus damped and when the throttle 5 is opened suddenly, the descent of the piston is slowed and the mixture is thus enriched momentarily. Fuel from a float chamber (not shown), lying alongside the chamber 7, is sucked through a pipe 16 to a tube 10A, at the end of which is formed a nozzle 10 controlled by a needle 15 carried by the piston. For starting, pipe 16 and tube 10A together with a junction piece 17 can be shifted axially with respect to the needle 15 by an arm 19 pivoted at 20. |
