PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medal identification device that can accurately identify a medal even when the medal has an individual difference.SOLUTION: A medal identification device 1 has: a medal region detection unit 61 for detecting, from an image generated by an image-capturing unit 4, a medal region in which the medal to be identified flowing down in a passage 6 is seen and the center of the medal region; an edge detection unit 62 for detecting an edge image in which the edge of the surface pattern of the medal to be identified is seen in the medal region; a similarity degree calculation unit 69 for selecting, for each partial region divided from the medal region, an edge image in which the ratio of the number of edge images to the area of the partial region is less than a prescribed ratio, aligning the center of a model region on a model image indicating the model of a prescribed medal and the center of the medal region, and calculating, on the basis of a match or mismatch of the selected edge image with the edge image in the model region, the similarity degree between the surface pattern of the model and the surface pattern of the medal to be identified; and a determination unit 70 for determining, in accordance with the similarity degree, whether or not the medal to be identified is a prescribed medal. |
