A method of preventing or treating influenza virus in a subject comprising administering to said subject in a pharmaceutically-acceptable excipient an effective amount of at least one first isolated or chemically synthesized peptide isolated from a hemagglutinin protein of an isolate of influenza virus and at least one second isolated or chemically synthesized peptide isolated from a pB1 protein of an isolate of influenza virus, wherein said first and second isolated or chemically synthesized peptides each consist of a Replikin sequence, wherein said Replikin sequences are defined as an amino acid sequence of up to 50 amino acid residues comprising: (1) at least one lysine residue located at a first terminus of said sequence and at least one lysine residue or at least one histidine residue located at a second terminus of said sequence; (2) a first lysine residue located six to ten residues from a second lysine residue; (3) at least one histidine residue; and (4) at least 6% lysine residues, andwherein said at least one first isolated or chemically synthesized peptide comprises at least one peptide sequence of SEQ ID NO(s): 1-6 and said at least one second isolated or chemically synthesized peptide comprises at least one peptide sequence of SEQ ID NO(s): 7-12.
