The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating rhinovirus or influenza virus infectious diseases, and to a functional food composition for alleviating or mitigating the diseases. The present invention has almost no toxicity by using carrageenan which is polysaccharide derived from natural substances as an active ingredient, and represents excellent antiviral activities with respect to influenza virus and rhinovirus which are representative viruses for causing respiratory infections. The present invention can be usefully used as an antiviral composition which is efficient and has no side effects, regarding virus-related diseases having limits in treatment using vaccine, due to antigen diversity or antigen modification.
