A light detection and ranging equipment may be used to determine a property of the wind at a plurality of locations ahead of a turbine. A wind flow model may be used to determine the property of wind expected at the rotor of the wind turbine based on the readings of the light detection and ranging device.

A method, comprising: retrieving a plurality of sensor measurements from one or more sensor devices, wherein the plurality of sensor measurements are associated with a property of wind at a plurality of distances away from a wind turbine; estimating, with a predefined model of wind flow, the property of the wind expected at a rotor of the wind turbine based on the plurality of sensor measurements; comparing the estimated property of the wind expected at the rotor with a measured property of the wind at the rotor to determine an error value, wherein the error value is based on a difference between the estimated property expected at the rotor and the measured property at the rotor; and adjusting at least one operational parameter of the wind turbine based on the estimated property of the wind expected at the rotor of the wind turbine, wherein a subsequent determination of the estimated property of the wind expected at the rotor is adjusted based on the error value.
