PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of suppressing a reduction in printing quality even if a movement speed of a printing section varies when the printing section performs printing with respect to a medium.SOLUTION: A printer comprises: a linear encoder for detecting first positional information of a carriage; a rotary encoder having resolution higher than that of the linear encoder for detecting second positional information of the carriage; and a control section controlling printing timing of a print head with respect to a medium on the basis of a position of the carriage. Further, the control section controls the printing timing on the basis of a first position X1 indicated by the first positional information (S14) when an absolute value VCab of a movement speed of the carriage is equal to a determination speed VCth or more (S13: YES). On the other hand, the control section controls the printing timing on the basis of a second position X2 indicated by the second positional information (S19) when the absolute value VCab of the movement speed of the carriage is less than the determination speed VCth (S13: NO). |
