The present invention relates to a broadcast signal receiving apparatus, capable of demodulating a changed broadcast signal and performing image processing through connection of an external processing unit to the broadcast signal receiving apparatus, and a control method thereof. The broadcast signal receiving apparatus of the present invention comprises: a tuner unit which receives a broadcast signal; a first demodulation unit which demodulates a first broadcast signal received by the tuner unit; an interface unit to which an external processing unit is connectable, the external processing unit including a second demodulation unit which demodulates a second broadcast signal which is received by the tuner unit and has a different format from the first broadcast signal; an image processing unit which performs image processing on the demodulated first broadcast signal or the demodulated second broadcast signal; and a control unit which performs control such that the second broadcast signal is transmitted to the external processing unit connected to the interface unit in response to the reception of the second broadcast signal and the second broadcast signal demodulated by the external processing unit is transmitted to the image processing unit. Therefore, it is possible to provide the broadcast signal receiving apparatus, capable of demodulating a changed broadcast signal and performing image processing through connection of the external processing unit to the broadcast signal receiving apparatus without replacing the broadcast signal receiving apparatus even when the changed broadcast signal is received. |
