PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video transmitter which enables viewing a content etc. with a most suitable video setting without manual setting by a user, in a transmission/reception system which includes a video transmitter for transmitting a video and a video receiver for receiving and displaying the video.SOLUTION: A video transmitter (10) includes: a communication speed measurement unit (150) configured to be capable of measuring a communication speed with external equipment; a control unit (140) configured to be controllable of determining a coding method according to the content type of video data and the communication speed; a coding unit (110) configured to be capable of coding the video data to be transmitted to the external equipment, using the determined coding method; and a video data transmitter unit (121) configured to be capable of transmitting the coded video data to the external equipment.
